Rise from the Ashes

Our GoFundMe Campaign Link

Hi my name is Dave and I’m well known within the hobby world as Ironskull Gaming and that’s why you’re probably here. I have nearly 5k followers on Instagram, this website is home to my Blog, a place for reviews, hobby tips, project logs, etc. BUT I’d like to also have an online store for those products I endorse using my 37 years hobby experience. That’s where I find myself… in an awful position, reaching out to the Hobby Community for support as I have a plan to rebuild but not the funds to make this dream come to life!

I find myself here as up until a 5 days before Christmas I was working as a Store Manager for a very well known online retailer who has embarked on growth into brick and mortar stores. Content and happy for the first time in a while, I found myself blindsided by a Company I loved and dismissed from my role, something I would have had a case of unfair dismissal for if I had reached 2 years service (which would have been in March). I gave so much of myself to this company and then I was tossed away like nothing I ever did mattered, 5 days before Christmas, 7 days before the anniversary of my mother’s passing and only weeks after the first anniversary of my mother in laws passing.

Your help to make this dream come to life means the world to me but I know times are hard so any help, no matter how small would be gratefully received.

Kings of War Slow Grow Challenge 2023

Mantic Games are running a Global Campaign later this year for their flagship Fantasy Mass Battle game Kings of War. The Shadowed Horizons Campaign focuses around the frozen North of Mantica and the City of Chill where raids from the Evil forces are a daily occurrence but more recently there has been an onslaught of Nightstalker attacks. Is this foreshadowing the arrival of a darker evil? Will the secret of the great power Telenor holds as a close guarded secret be revealed or fall into evil hands? Only the results of the Global Campaign will reveal!

To take part you need to pick an allegiance, either good or evil and ready at least an Ambush sized army to play…if only there was a group to help spur us on in building, painting and playing a new Kings of War Ambush army…well this is where Blackjack Legacy steps in to save the day!

Over on Facebook there is a shiny new group issuing a challenge, a challenge to do just that…introducing The Kings of War – Blackjack Legacy – Slow Grow Army Challenge 2023 and we are going to join in…say hello to new versions of our existing Ambush armies or totally new ones from 𝕴𝖗𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑 𝕲𝖆𝖒𝖎𝖓𝖌: 𝕾𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖘 – 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀.

The first challenge is up in the group and is simply:-

  • Choose an Army for the Slow Grow
  • Write a list up to 995pts
  • Paint your first unit/hero model(s)

So what Armies do we have from our team so far…

𝕮𝖍𝖗𝖔𝖓𝖎𝖈𝖑𝖊𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝖙𝖇𝖊 𝕾𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖘: 𝕶𝖎𝖓𝖌𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝖂𝖆𝖗 – 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 – 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝟭

Welcome wearied traveller, today is our channel’s announcement of the 𝕾𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖘 Team’s chosen forces for the #summerslowgrow which we are doing as part of the amazing BlackJack Legacy Kings of War Slow Grow Challenge 2023 in conjunction with Mantic Games in preparation for their Shadowed Horizons Global Campaign!

You may have noticed that recently we added a new 𝕾𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑 to the prestigious Ironskull Gaming team and as such five of us will be working on new Kings of War Ambush Armies and are as follows…

The Iron Jarl – Northern Alliance – “to go as opposite as I could from my Nightstalkers I started at the end of last year, I’ve chosen to focus on the Tribes People of the Northern Alliance… I mean how could I resist the new plastics… Dwarfs riding giant ravens, who wouldn’t!!!”

Wargaming Old Guys – Abyssal Dwarfs – “forging alliances with the dark forces of Pannithor seems to be my thing so how about those evil Dwarfs bringing terror to the North!”

palette of war – Riftforged Orcs – “I mean have you seen the Storm giant!! I fell in love with that model when I first experienced Kings of War at the Mantic Open Day last year and so I knew when called to battle for a new faction it had to be this army!”

𝕬𝖈𝖊🔥 – Empire of Dust – “I know, I know I did those for my last build BUT I’m in love with this army and have decided to revisit it with a new Ambush list which when combined with my previous one will grow my army towards the 2300pts mark!”

Alchemy Reigns Uk – Undead – “loving the Gothic Aesthetic, I knew I had to start with the Undead Army… Regiments of Skeletons, Revenants & Soul Reaver Vampires marching through a crumbling graveyard was right up my street…I mean it’s the only way to go, right?”

Follow our progress and/or join in the fun of the Slow Grow Challenge… the fate of Mantica depends on it!

Check back for more 𝕮𝖍𝖗𝖔𝖓𝖎𝖈𝖑𝖊𝖘 𝖔𝖋 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝕾𝖐𝖚𝖑𝖑𝖘 updates for Kings of War coming soon!

We Want All The Damned Range!

That’s right, we want all The Damned Range…that’s The Damned by Wargames Atlantic & MiniWargaming which as of today (30/5/23) is live as a campaign on Gamefound.

The Damned is a new range of highly detailed, multi-part, hard plastic Post Apocalyptic sci-fi miniatures! These awesome miniatures are 28mm heroic scale to be used in your favourite tabletop games.

We were so privileged to be sent a Preproduction Brute Miniature from the upcoming range to paint up and woah were we blown away! I was tasked with painting this super cool miniature and have to say the detail captured in the sculpts is absolutely stunning and as such it was an absolute dream to paint! Choosing to break away from the Promo/Studio colour scheme of red and metallics, which lean towards the Khorne Cultist/Renegade Guard vibe, I opted for Blues and Yellow/Browns for a nod towards another Chaos Deity and their Renegade Militia the Tzeentch Cult of Change.

This range has vibes that make them perfect alternative models for those found in Warhammer 40k Lore, they also make perfect miniatures for any Trench or Grim Dark setting sci-fi game! Check out our video below:

The Gamefound Campaign

They hope that, with your help, they can bring a total of eight highly detailed and versatile hard plastic kits to life.

If successful this campaign will first unlock four new hard plastic sets for The Damned: Infantry, Weapons Teams, Brutes, and Command. A series of stretch goals will unlock a load of additional hard plastic frames and full sets including textured bases in a variety of sizes, Outriders, Hounds, Artillery, and a full multi-sprue plastic vehicle! As a backer there is an impressive list of freebies you can get if the Campaign reaches certain stretch goals, these only get better the more your pledge is for…hence the title of this article, check out the below graphic from Gamefound…

So in short, this is an awesome new range of miniatures that will work for a wide range of Sci-Fi, Near Future, Apocalypse game settings. so what are you waiting for? Click the image below to get all of The Damned miniatures…you know you want to!

Onwards and Upwards for ISG

As for most, the past few years have been a difficult one. We’ve had our ups and downs, we’ve suffered losses and big changes but it’s high time that we dust off our paint stations and gaming areas to commence on the journey in the hobby once more…onwards and upwards, always!

Best Laid Plans…

So with that in mind I laid out some challenges for myself and the Studio Group and we are coming back strong! First up we’ll take a look at some personal challenges in the hobby…

As you can see, we love our Konflikt ’47 here!
As shown on Instagram the first K-47 project is well underway!

As well as these projects I’d like to work on not 1, but 2…well maybe 3 Warhammer: Age of Sigmar projects. After running a poll on Instagram and Facebook it was decided that I would work on Kharadron Overlords and my son decided he wanted me to help him work on an Ossiarch Bonereapers army…well that’s 2 so why did you mention 3? I hear you call! Well we both decided on a shared army for both of us to use and that is, well a surprise up our sleeves!! As well as that we picked up the new Realmscape Ghurish Expanse plus the expansion set to give us a gaming board for the studio using the new dimensions and are building terrain for both sides of it starting with an eightpoints side pictured below.

The Eightpoints board gets its first few pieces of Scenery built!

That’s it for now, hopefully you are all dusting off your collections and your hobbyverses are returning to some form of normality. Onwards and Upwards one and all – The Iron Jarl

The Painting Continues…

Hi guys and gals, it’s been about a year since my last update but I’ve not been slacking too much on the painting front. I’ve had loads on for projects for Warlord Games and as such haven’t had any time for commission work outside of this hobby.

Last year I completed a 3500pts Soviet Konflikt ’47 Army, a 1000pts American Bolt Action Army (and an additional 500pts of Konflikt ’47 goodies), 1000pts of Kings of War Forces of the Abyss, 2 KoW: Vanguard Warbands, 2 The Walking Dead Crews… The list goes on…

Due to this year bring Jam Packed with work Hobby I will be temporarily closing commissions with the exception of single model/characters. This is only for the time being while I focus on all the work projects I’m doing and get up to date.

Happy Wargaming & stay safe – The Iron Jarl

And The Hobby Still Goes On…

So 2020, what a year so far! We’re three months in and it feels like we’re in an apocalypse. Covid-19 has changed the daily routine for so many of us and it will I’m no doubt cause many problems as time goes by.

I am currently writing this from the safety of my own home as, due to my health concerns, I’ve been told to shield myself for 12 weeks. Back in December I started my dream job as the HQ Store Manager for Warlord Games. 5 months on and I’m working from home.

Like many of you I have quite the stockpile of hobby supplies and projects I can work on while on isolation and I of course have my new years hobby resolutions to try and tick off. Here are a couple of pics of things I’ve worked on these past few weeks. – The Iron Jarl

SQUIGS IN THE DICE TRAY!!!

Welcome one and all to the first blog post in a very long time and the first of many I hope! So without further ado lets hand you over to Head Skull Dave…

gloomspite gitz header

Squigs they are everywhere!! As a Night Goblin fan for many moons (pun intended) I have successfully transferred my Night Goblins over to Age of Sigmar (and those round bases) and played loads of games with the Moonclan!

Fast Forward a few months and BOOM!! we have stunning release bringing these gitz further into the mortal realms…. all hail the Gloomspite Gitz!!
2 Waves of Mushroom Fuelled Power
So after two weeks of back to back releases for the Gitz I finally secured a set of the most destructive and random of Squigs… The Squig Dice!

squig dice

These bundles of joy are just as random as you’d imagine seeing as they are six sided dice but be warned these are destructive, bouncy and elusive little monsters who refuse to remain in the dice tray!

An absolute must for the collector who wants all the cool things but sadly when it comes to dice these are just too crazy and i can see them boinging around the gaming halls all over the world
